March Recap

Exciting month: more snow days (they lost their charm rather quickly), Emma hit some milestones, we celebrated St Patrick's day, the ski season finally ended (it lost it's charm by the end as well), and so on and so forth.

Lizzie and I attended the General Women's Meeting together.  It was definitely a different feel to the meeting with all ages in attendance, but it was so wonderful going with Liz, and we were both impressed with the décor and refreshments (I was more focused on the former, Liz was more excited about the latter).

Emma's milestones:
  • Started standing up in her crib (not great for bedtime)
  • Transitioned from an army crawl (did that for about a month) to a standard crawl on Sunday, March 16th while at the Pomeroy's house for Sunday dinner.
  • During church, on Sunday, March 30th, I discovered what that one of her bottom teeth had broken through the gums, but wasn't sure if it was the left or the right tooth.  After church Drew checked her mouth and reported that it was both left and right.  I know eight months isn't early for teething, but it is in our family.  All our other girls were around one year old!
  • She discovered the joy of found objects such as doorstoppers, her sister's baby dolls, and mommy's cell phone.

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day.  A tricky leprechaun died our milk green, messed with various chairs, and left a bag of chocolate gold coins everywhere he caused mischief.  The girls were excited about their candy, but all day (all week, really), Lainey and Elli worried that the leprechaun was still in our house angling to take their candy or food or toys and would ask each other to watch their things when they went to the bathroom ("Make sure the leprechaun doesn't get my pancake when I go potty").
In December and January the girls excitedly suited up and played outside whenever it snowed.  By March they were so over snow and preferred to paint or play inside despite my encouragement to do otherwise ("Come on guys, this may be the last snow of the season!" -- I had too many occasions to say this).
Our annual passes to Mt. Vernon expired at the end of the month so I took the little girls for a few last visits.  We hit their favorites:
  • The statues in the visitors center (Ellie kept calling Martha "the queen" and her daughter "the princess")
  • Animals, especially baby animals
  • The blacksmith (Lainey's fave, she usually wanted to watch him for an hour, give or take)
  • The kid's play area in the learning center, plus some of the movies
  • "The yucky teeth" (Washington's dentures were Ellie's favorite stop and always on her must see list)

We swapped out their winter clothes for spring and summer ones.  I always enjoyed these types of purging and reorganizing projects.  Drew hates them so I tackled the girls rooms while he was at work.
Also, we played outside a bit, thanks to the improved weather (well, the occasionally improved weather):
I started spending some more time reading books.  This month I plowed through: How the Irish Saved Civilization, Go Ask Alice, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, Polio: An American Story, and Angela's Ashes (well, some of it).
