Memorial Day/Ellie's birthday at Great Wolf Lodge

Andrew surprised the girls with a last minute (well, sort of--he planned it Thursday) trip to Great Wolf Lodge.  He surprised me with a massage and facial.  It was quite nice.
After church we told the girls we were going on a picnic and started driving south.  It didn't take them long to realize that we weren't really just going picnicking.  Drew gave them what I thought were pretty obvious clues as to our destination: we've been there before, it's in Williamsburg, it's a water park .  .  .  Still, they didn't guess our destination until about a minute before it came into view and that was only because Liz noticed a sign.
Since Drew's brother is currently living in Williamsburg we were able to join them for a delicious Sunday dinner and then, Monday afternoon my saintly SIL watched all our girls so Drew and I could join his brother and son at the movies.  We saw the new X-men movie.  Loved it.
Sunday night while Drew put the little girls to bed, Liz and I went on the slides alone.  So fun.  Plus, I thought she had been on them before, but she hadn't, so we got to share that.  Lainey was also braver this trip.  Suddenly she is no longer afraid of the wave pool and she was even willing to go on one of the slides with Liz and Drew or myself.

Emma was pretty chill as long as she was held (check her out lounging on Drew's chest in the lazy river).  She didn't particularly like playing in pools, but she enjoyed splashing the hot tub bubbles/foam.  Ellie also liked the hot tub (after a long acclamation period).

We also played Magiquest with the kids.  Lainey and Ellie were super excited to activate their wands, but tired of the game soon.  Liz did Shadowquest and wished she had more time to play.

Ellie's favorite spot was the edge of the kiddie pool (you can see her near Lizzie's shoulder in the shot below).  Elle refused to try the slides and usually didn't even play with the water features.  She just splashed around or walked on her hands and was extremely content.
